Spirea planting and care

Spireas are great shrubs that grow well and look great in any situation.

They are hardy to Zone 3 but they will be fine in colder climates as long as they are protected from cold winds. They can be very thirsty plants, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the potting soil during the summer.

They grow quickly, so if you decide that they’re not the right size or shape for the space, don’t hesitate to transplant them later in the year.

Spireas are also quite hardy once established, and will keep themselves relatively well-mannered, so are ideal for beginners.

Their foliage is a nice green colour and while their blooms are typically white, they can vary from cream to yellow. Their flowers are perfect for attracting birds, who will enjoy the seedpods.

The spirea’s leaves look nice in the summer when in full bloom, but they do well through the autumn and winter and don’t mind a little bit of frost.

For your average English garden, this is a plant that you can grow at any time of year, but spring is always the best time for spireas.

Spirea

‘Brumanda’ is an old classic in the gardening world, thanks to its deep and beautiful purple-blue flowers.

There are a few different varieties to choose from, but all of them are grown well in most parts of the world.

We’ve found this particular one in good condition, but it’s still a great garden plant to add to any garden!

Some other spirea options

‘Black Forest Fairy’ Spirea

‘Burford Blue’ Spirea

‘Coronation Ruby’ Spirea

‘Lilac Glow’ Spirea

‘Pink Spirea’

Spirea ‘Celeste’

This variety is a smaller type of spirea, so we recommend you look for it at a garden center.

Spirea ‘Fernbrook’

We’ve seen these for sale at one of the top UK garden centers, and it seems like it’s become a real favorite amongst gardeners everywhere.

The leaves are usually very dark green and very bushy.

Some varieties of spirea are better grown in a large pot if you’re planning to transplant it, but the fernbrook is pretty self-sustaining once it’s established in the garden.

It’s a lovely choice for those wanting a smaller spirea in their garden.

Spirea ‘Nancy Lee’

We tend to get more of a ‘purple spirea’ effect with this variety, but it will do you just as well for what it does! It has smaller leaves which are a nice deep purple color.

The spirea ‘Nancy Lee’ will grow large and be bushy, but it won’t overgrow as much as some others. We recommend the ‘Dianthus x Nanum’ variety, which you’ll see in the images below.

Spirea ‘Nanum’

This is a very popular spirea, and is one of the first varieties you’ll see at your local garden center when you start looking. It’s a great choice for all types of gardening, especially when you’re looking for a variety that will grow into a nice sized shrub.

It s a good spirea for adding height to a garden, even if you’re not transplanting it.

We recommend the purple leaf form with pink flowers for this variety, but there are many other color options to look at! There are many varieties of this plant, so you should be able to find some that are perfect for your garden space.

Spirea Pink

You ll notice that the spireas we listed in this post are a good choice if you want a smaller shrub, rather than the ‘Dianthus x Nanum’. If you’re looking for a larger, bushy shrub, you ll want to consider that as your main choice.

Remember that you can always transplant your spireas, so if you have the room, they’re a great choice for a nice, small edging garden.

How far apart should plants be planted?

While this may seem like a simple question, it isn t.Každá oblast země a každý typ zahrady se v této otázce liší.

Vysazením spirál podél příjezdových cest a cest k vašemu pozemku získáte viditelnější úrodu věží
