Students are prepared for a wide range of careers working with plants on any scale of gardens and landscapes: urban, suburban, and rural; residential, commercial, and agricultural. Student knowledge and hands-on skills are developed in the program in the following areas: general horticulture and gardening practice, plant identification and botany, pruning, soil management, pest management, plant propagation, greenhouse production, landscape construction, plant pathology, plant nutrition, floral design, landscape design, landscape graphics, computer aided drafting, site analysis and more. Students gain this knowledge through peer-reviewed scientific literature, professional case studies, comprehensive lectures and projects, and through hands on laboratory demonstrations and procedures in our campus facilities and at numerous field sites throughout the region. Prairie Horticulture Certificate

The Horticulture Science certificate is an established program that provides a solid foundation of courses to successfully pursue or advance a career in the horticultural industry in such areas as greenhouse worker, gardener, and in parks and recreation and golf courses. Students will study botany, plant identification, tree and shrub care, turf management, and the general culture and care of annuals and perennials. All Faculty of Applied Sciences Technology Continuous Professional Learning courses in this program are being offered in an online virtual classroom unless otherwise specified for example lab required components. Those who successfully complete the program are eligible to receive a certificate of accomplishment from Humber College. If you are not able to complete the full program, you may be eligible to receive a micro-credential based on successful completion of certain courses. Horticulture Technologies

The MPSH program is currently under review.Please contact Susan Buffler with questions regarding options for applying to an online water-efficient landscape management Master's program. The Master of Professional Studies in Horticulture MPSH is an online, professional graduate degree program with a required internship or capstone project. The program consists of 33 semester credits, with 21 credits of required courses and 4 credits of internship experience or capstone project. The courses are designed to increase skills and expertise in all aspects of landscape water conservation.

Students in this program focus on the science and the art of horticulture through a combination of classroom theory, laboratory practice, and hands-on-learning. Classes are infused with the latest technology and current green industry topics.

Environmental Horticulture

The Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Management area of study provides a unique combination of soil and plant science, landscape construction and maintenance, business and entrepreneurship courses that will prepare you for a successful career in the green industry. Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Management information. The ornamental horticulture industry needs qualified people in diverse jobs that use the newest computer technology, latest equipment and modern business skills. You will work to beautify the world and improve the quality of the environment. Horticultural Science Bachelor of Science Degree
